Week 1 Short Stories

Short Story Week 1 at YPI was a great success.  We had eight young writers, all of whom worked as hard as I have seen a class work in my many years as a teacher.  Whether brainstorming, outlining, writing, or revising, they stayed focused on their creative visions and made them happen in an amazingly short amount of time.  Remember that each of these stories represents four and a half days of work—not long at all to move from the first glimmerings of an idea to a full-blown narrative.  In addition to their own stories, the Week 1 students collaborated on a statement of artistic principles: the Immersionist Manifesto.  All in all, it was a good week to be a writer, and a better week to be a teacher.

Here’s the complete lineup of stories from the first week:

Devil Eggs by Alex Chasin

Unbalanced by Naomi Doshi

A Friend Like Me by Camille Faucheux

Fate by Olivia Emert

Dreaming About Nothing by Katherine Folker

Gunned Down  by Sam Kneeland

The Kingdom of Dusk by Jessie Pelosi

Cleaver by Parker Wallis

Enjoy!
